In the Summer of 2009, the brand new Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital (RMCH) opened its doors, as part of the total re-build of Manchester Royal Infirmary, having ordered over 200 of our ‘WISKAWAY’® Parents’ Wallbeds, (mostly ‘Vertical’, but also some ‘Horizontal’ Wallbeds), which we delivered, placed and installed to a tight deadline, over a period of just 4 weeks.
The Hospital wanted to include as many of these wall beds as possible and, whilst most of them were a standard single size, there were a number of beds which we had to make slightly narrower than the rest, to fit into some very tight spaces and there were also a few beds which we made deeper, to fit in front of (over) pillars behind – (see last 2 pictures). We were able to supply this relatively small quantity of bespoke beds, because we make our beds specifically for each project and can therefore be very flexible on specifications/modifications..

The beds were spread across numerous Wards, over several Floors and were supplied complete with our wipe-clean/waterproof ‘FLEXICA’® Mattresses.
Since installing these beds, we have serviced them several times and have also replaced most of the original mattresses.
Although our ‘WISKAWAY’® Parents’ Wallbeds are designed to be fixed in place (to the wall behind), they can quickly and easily be unfixed and relocated, if required.
Thus, over the 2020/2021 Christmas/New Year period, we were asked to move all 24 ‘Vertical’ ‘WISKAWAY’® 7500H Parents’ Wallbeds from Ward 75, on the ground floor (see first 2 pictures), up to Ward 86 on the third floor, to make way for an expanded A & E Department.
Since they opened, the RMCH have also acquired a substantial number of ‘GLIDEAWAY’® Parents’ Guestbeds, for use in areas where there is insufficient wall space for a wall bed.
We have serviced these guest beds for them also.
Other Manchester Hospitals which use our ‘WISKAWAY’® Visitor Wallbeds and ‘GLIDEAWAY’® Visitor Guestbeds include the (next-door) St. Mary’s Maternity Hospital and Wythenshawe Hospital. The latter also use our ‘NEAT-A-WARD’® Patient Wallbeds, as do North Manchester General Hospital.
