In 2023 we were contacted by the Royal Bournemouth Hospital who were looking for wall beds for their new Beach Building, to which their Maternity Wards were due to be moved (from Poole Hospital) in 2025 and which was nearing completion.
Their Architects had proposed using wall beds and they had seen our ‘WISKAWAY’® Visitor Wallbeds in service at various nearby Hospitals, including Southampton General Hospital, the QAH in Portsmouth and Salisbury District Hospital.
As the staff at Poole Hospital were using recliners and chair beds and had no actual experience of using wall beds, we lent them a single ‘Vertical’ ‘WISKAWAY’® 7500H Parents’ Wallbed, which we installed at Poole Hospital for them to try-out, over an extended 6 month period.
It did not take them long to find out how much easier to use, more practical and comfortable the loan wall bed was than their existing chair beds – (not to mention far longer lasting)!
As a result, a number of Single and Double ‘Vertical’, plus some Double ‘Horizontal’ ‘WISKAWAY’® Visitor Wallbeds with top storage, were ordered for the new Beach building and were delivered and installed just before Christmas 2024, ready for the Maternity Department to move-in early in 2025.
The rooms for which these beds were specified included the Labour Ward HDU, various
Isolation and Bereavement Rooms and the Body Viewing Room.
In 2026 the Children’s Wards are due to move across from Poole Hospital to the New BEACH Building in Bournemouth and we have been told to expect a further order for more single ‘Vertical’ ‘WISKAWAY’® 7500H Parents Wallbeds, for the Paediatric Ward.
