Because our ‘WISKAWAY’® Visitor Wallbeds have to be fixed to the wall behind, they need to be planned in to whatever scheme they are used for. They are therefore mainly specified for Ward refurbishment and new-build schemes.
Although many of the buildings on the Children’s Wing at Kings College Hospital are old, a rolling refurbishment programme has resulted in modern facilities.
The complete refurbishment of the old Mountbatten Ward in 2008, (now named Rays of Sunshine Ward), on the Children’s wing of Kings College Hospital in London, offered the opportunity of incorporating our side-ways folding ’Horizontal’ ‘WISKAWAY’® 6000H Parents’ Wallbeds throughout, complete with our wipe-clean/waterproof ‘FLEXICA’® Mattresses, in both the single cubicles and the multi-bedded bays.
In many of the single cubicles the wall beds were positioned against the lower part of the half-glazed partition walls. On these beds, a lift-up top was provided, to offer users a more spacious experience – (see 4 pictures below).

The rest of the Wallbeds were fitted with top storage lockers with a coin operated security lock on one of the compartments. Due to the positioning of the beds relative to various windows, trunking, etc. the size of these lockers had to be varied to exactly fit the available spaces – something we were able to do as we manufacture our beds specifically for each project – (see 6 pictures below).

Since they were installed, we have serviced all these wall beds.
A number of other Wards on the Children’s wing of Kings College Hospital, use our ‘Horizontal’ ‘WISKAWAY’® 6000H Parents’ Wallbeds, including the Paediatric HDU Ward, where we were asked to replace another make of wall bed which had proved itself to be unsafe for Hospital use.
Several of the Children’s Wards at KCH also use our ‘GLIDEAWAY’® Parents’ Guestbeds.
