In the late 1980s/early1990s, when we were pioneering the use of our wall beds in Hospitals and Hospices, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital was one of the largest Children’s Hospitals in Europe and was an early adopter of both our fixed ‘WISKAWAY’® Visitor Wallbeds and our ‘GLIDEAWAY’® Visitor Guestbeds.
Most of the buildings on the site were quite old and were gradually being gutted and completely refurbished and many were then equipped with our ‘WISKAWAY’® Visitor Wallbeds, while the Hospital’s Hotel Services Department used a ‘fleet’ of our ‘GLIDEAWAY’® Visitor Guestbeds. to lend out to Wards which either did not yet have our wall beds installed, or had spaces that were unsuitable for wall beds.
In 2003 Alder Hey Hospital opened a completely new, purpose built, Paediatric Oncology Building, financed by their Rocking Horse Charity and fitted throughout with ‘Vertical’ 7500H ‘WISKAWAY’® Visitor Wallbeds and matching lockers 7600H – (see pictures below).

As the treatment being offered involved longer Hospital stays, for both the children and their parents, matching lockers were provided with each wall bed and, as the spaces into which these wall bed/locker units needed to fit, varied quite considerably and we wanted to provide the maximum possible storage space with each bed, the width of the lockers was varied to match each available space.
This was possible because we manufacture our beds specifically for each project and can therefore be very flexible about modifications/special customer requirements, even on smaller quantities.
Alder Hey Hospital have since moved to a completely new, purpose-built, building on an adjacent site.
